Treatments

This section provides a brief outline of some of the Complementary Holistic & Sports Therapies offered by Chris Clews.

Having regular holistic treatments can help your body maintain inner balance and harmony, by providing time and space to completely relax and revitalise mind and body, away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. In a quest for better health, people are looking for a more individual and natural approach to health in order to enhance their lives. Many holistic therapies are based on systems of thought which promote balance and harmony between mind and body, leaning toward prevention rather than cure. More and more of these therapies are becoming recognized in the West, perhaps in part due to the recognition of the health consequences of stress and our hectic lifestyles. Holistic therapies are practiced with the root or cause of a problem by treating the whole, unique individual. A holistic therapist seeks the cause rather then just the symptoms. Holistic treatments can therefore be powerful in helping to secure a lasting solution to chronic conditions.Complementary means they will add to and 'complement' your healing and therefore should not conflict with other treatments. They are not a substitute to seeking medical or other professional advice.

Chris, as a qualified therapist will want to discuss your suitability for your choice of treatment and the likely outcomes in advance.

Aromatherapy

aromaimage

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils, from flowers, trees and shrubs and their fruits, blooms, leaves, stems and roots. These therapeutic oils are usually massaged into the body, to be absorbed through the skin. They may be added into a warm bath or inhaled by means of vaporisers. They may also be added to steam inhalation and to compresses or even spread throughout a room using diffuserss.

Aromatherapy is often used to relieve stress, headaches, insomnia, tension and pain, and to aid relaxation and general wellbeing and help to relax, uplift, revitalise or restore the body and spirit. Aromatherapy is increasingly being used in cancer care and in sports therapy.

Massage

Aromat3

Massage is the manipulation of the body's soft tissue using the hands to perform different types of movements and techniques on the body and is used to improving the movement of these tissues and to help the body's circulatory and lymphatic systems. The most common part of the body that is massaged is the back, although massage can be performed on many parts of the body. Massage is aimed to provide relaxation, healing and detoxification. Massage is incredibly relaxing, and may help reduce tension, stress and aid the body's immune system. Chris uses many forms of advanced massage, such as neuromuscular, manual lymphatic drainage, accupressure as well as sports massage.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of massage used on the hands, feet and ears, but most often only on the feet. It is a very popular therapy and a reflexologist will view the entire body as mapped out in zones on the feet, hands and ears. These parts of the body are treated by applying pressure and stimulation using massage of certain pressure points or reflex areas. Applying pressure to the relevant zone, creates a reflex action and stimulates energy in the related part of the body. This encourages the related body area to balance and heal. Reflexology is thought to increase circulation and promote specific bodily and muscular functions. Most people find a reflexology treatment very relaxing and effective.

Ear Acupuncture

EA

Ear Acupuncture is a simple safe and effective approach which allows a large number of people to simultaneously receive treatment and improve the quality of their health and wellbeing. Results can be achieved within the first session, but regular treatments enhance the beneficial effects.

Small sterile disposable needles are inserted just under the skin surface to stimulate the body to achieve balance and harmony.

The Ear Acupuncture is enhanced by the use of Qi Gong (traditional Chinese self-healing exercise) during the treatments. Clients can then apply these techniques for themselves at any time to improve their health and wellbeing.

Ear Acupuncture is particularly effective for:

Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal
Smoking Cessation
Insomnia
Mental Health Problems
Eating Disorders
Stress Management

Hopi Ear Candling

Hopi

Hopi Ear Candles (also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy) is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions.

These ear candles induce a gentle revitalising heat upon the head and ears, which soothes, relieves and relaxes.

The practice of ear candling reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers. Ancient wall paintings show their importance in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.

Included is the candling treatment and facial accupressure and massage.

I only use CE approved ear candles. A constant high quality is ensured. Ear candles contain natural components The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions.

Indian Head Massage

IHM

An Indian head massage is a gentle treatment applied to the neck, shoulders, upper arms and the head. It is used to aid relaxation and aid blood flow through the scalp.

When feeling stressed, tension can accumulate causing problems such as stiffness in the neck and shoulders, eye strain or headaches. An Indian head massage can resolve these problems and make you feel more calm and relaxed.

Reiki

reiki hands

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
